“Durgapur Government College is recognised by UGC under sections 2(f) and 12(B) and was accredited by NAAC with a “B++” grade in 2007 and an “A” grade in 2017 with a CGPA of 3.02. Established to offer bachelor's degrees in six arts subjects, the college gradually opened their doors to the science and commerce streams. The college was affiliated with The University of Burdwan since 23 June 2015 and subsequently to Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol. Presently, the college offers 27 undergraduate programmes of arts, science and commerce streams, and 3 postgraduate programmes.
