"St.Xavier's College was established by Jesuit Fathers to empower the marginalised youth of the southern districts of Tamil Nadu with proper education. The college is accredited by NAAC with A++ Grade. The Madras University recognised St. Xavier’s College as a First Grade College in 1925 based on its academic achievement. The college was affiliated with the Madurai Kamaraj University in 1966. Their vision is to mould young men and women as leaders in all walks of life so that they may serve the people, especially the poor and the oppressed of their nation, in truth, justice and love. All their staff are highly qualified, experienced, skilled, certified and dedicated towards their chosen subject. St.Xavier's College conducts a placement programme. They also organise cultural seminars, workshops and events.

2026 Update: Rev. Fr. Dr. Godwin Rufus, S.J. is the Principal of the college. St.Xavier's College offers 20 undergraduate programmes, 15 postgraduate programmes, and 12 research programmes. In addition, students can choose from 127 extra credit/add-on courses. The college library provides a wide range of resources, including books, textbooks, audio-visual materials, e-books, e-journals, and databases, designed to meet the evolving needs of the academic community. The college has a total of 60 classrooms, of which 48 are equipped with ICT facilities, and 12 seminar and conference halls also feature ICT support. There are 13 smart boards, along with specialised labs including a robotic lab, language lab, and media lab. The campus also has a greenhouse, herbal garden, and herbarium, as well as 13 science laboratories and an instrumentation centre. Additionally, the college houses two museums (Folklore and Zoology) and 27 research centres, providing a modern and well-equipped environment for learning and research."
