Government Medical College is a well-known medical college in Surat. It was founded in 1964 that provides the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) and Nursing and para-medical courses. The campus is located in approximately 130 acres. They are affiliated with Veer Narmad South Gujarat Univ. and is approved by Medical Council of India. The College strives to improve people's lives through excellence in service, learning, compassion, and the healing touch. They are attached with New Civil Hospital which has over 1150 beds, ICUs and Special rooms. It serves to the needs of nearly 4000 outpatients daily and on an average of 150 to 200 patients admitted as indoor patients every day. Government Medical College has four lecture theatres, including anatomy hall, physiology hall, PSM hall and microbiology hall. They offer additional amenities to students library and computer lab, hostel, mess and recreation facilities.

'Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education & Research' is a self-financed medical college in Surat. It was founded in the year of 2000 and affiliated to the Veer Narmad South Gujarat University. SMIMER is located with 18,427 sq. metres of area for the medical college and 75,217 sq. metres for the hospital section. The college hospital has 500 beds, 90% are free beds, and 10% are paying beds in the special wards. Their campus is well connected to the national highway by link road and the airport, which is about 15 Km from the College. 'SMIMER' provides an annual intake of 150 students, after obtaining permission from the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India.
