"Udaygiri & Khandagiri Caves is formerly known as Kattaka Caves, also known as Cuttack Caves. They cave are archaeologically, historically, and religiously significant sites. The caves are partly natural and partly constructed. Udaygiri & Khandagiri Caves are protected monuments overseen by the Archaeological Survey of India, and they are one of India's most important archaeological sites. The imagery of Vaishnavism (Vishnu), Shaktism (Durga and Matrikas), and Shaivism are found in the Udayagiri caves (Shiva). Some caves are natural, while the archaeological department has artificially constructed others. The caves in the Kumari mountain range were constructed for the Jain monks and offered them a place to stay and meditate. Out of the 117 caves originally built, 33 survive to this day. Several caves are carved out of limestone.

2026 Update: Udaygiri & Khandagiri Caves' Marshall counted more than 35 caves in both the hills, while Ganguli has only 27 caves."
