"Jhansi Fort underwent massive destruction in the First War of Independence against the British East India Company. The Jhansi Fort also has a war memorial built to commemorate martyrs. Jhansi Fort served as a stronghold of the Karhade Brahmin Kings in Balwant Nagar from the 11th through the 17th century. The Fort is near Rani Lakshmibai Park and was created in memory of her poignant role in the freedom struggle. Visitors can see the innovative architecture, including Kal Kothari, a dungeon for prisoners, temples, and museums. Around the Fort, the streets are filled with bazaars and temples. Parking is available.

2026 Update: Jhansi Fort spans 15 acres in a colossal structure about 312m in height and 225m in width, with twenty-two supports that strengthen the wall, which is surrounded by a moat on both sides."

Rani Mahal Jhansi was a former residence and royal palace of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Rani Mahal Jhansi was constructed by Raghu Nath-II of the Newalkar family. The Mahal has a six-halled, two-storeyed building, including the famous Darbar Hall. The Mahal was renovated into a museum with artefacts from the 19th century and the life of Rani Lakshmi Bai. Visitors can explore the history of India, the rulers, their traditions and the events that took place during the medieval period. The ground floor is an exhibition space for stone sculptures from various periods. Everyone can enjoy the visit for free.
