“Jhansi Fort underwent massive destruction in the First War of Independence against the British East India Company. The Jhansi Fort also has a war memorial built to commemorate martyrs. Jhansi Fort served as a stronghold of the Karhade Brahmin Kings in Balwant Nagar from the 11th through the 17th century. The Fort is near Rani Lakshmibai Park and was created in memory of her poignant role in the freedom struggle. Visitors can see the innovative architecture, Kal Kothari or a dungeon for prisoners, temples, and museums. Around the Fort, the streets are filled with bazaars and temples. Parking is available.”
