What our experts say?
Vasai Fort is a nationally significant historic landmark protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) in Vasai-Virar, Maharashtra. The park spans 110 acres, the extensive fort was established in 1535 by the Portuguese and later came under the control of the Marathas and the British. Currently undergoing restoration efforts by the ASI, the fort has frequently served as a location for Bollywood film shoots. Within the fort, three chapels from its historical past remain identifiable. Vasai Fort encompasses churches dating back to the seventeenth century and retains numerous watchtowers. Its formidable defences included a robust wall on land and a formidable fleet protecting the seaside, rendering it virtually impregnable. The fort also offers an exceptional setting for observing butterflies, birds, plants, and reptiles.
