The Zoological Garden was established on November 29, 1921, to commemorate the Prince of Wales's visit to Lucknow. Sir Harcourt Butler, the Governor of the State, initiated the idea of developing zoological gardens in the city. The Zoological Garden has 463 mammals, 298 birds, and 72 reptiles representing 97 species. Nawab Wajid Ali Shah Zoological Garden is one of only two zoos to display an orangutan in India. It is well-known for the Rail, a zoo and paddleboat toy train that allows visitors to recreate when viewing the animals. Lots of science and physics practical-based activities are there to attract tourists.
