“Shaniwar Wada showcased architectural brilliance during the 18th century. Originally conceived as the Peshwas' residence, this majestic palace exemplifies a fusion of Mughal design elements in its architecture. The intricate carvings and stunning designs by Maratha artisans showcase their exceptional craftsmanship. Notable artisans like Shivaram Krishna, Devaji Sutar, Kondaji Sutar, and Morarji Patharwat Bhojraja contributed to its construction. Among its gates, the Dilli Darwaza (Delhi Gate) is a renowned entrance, both facing north. The Khidki Darwaza is oriented towards the east, whereas the Ganesh Darwaza is oriented towards the southeast. Noteworthy is the lotus-shaped fountain at Shaniwar Wada, adorned with seventeen petals. Visitors can also enjoy a sound and light show within the premises. The historical structure of Shaniwar Wada forms a centrepiece around which the old part of Pune city unfolds, exhibiting a somewhat chaotic yet intriguingly structured layout.”
