HH MAHARAJA SIR JIWAJIRAO SCINDIA MUSEUM
Since 1947
“HH Maharaja Sir Jiwajirao Scindia Museum occupies 35 rooms within the lavish Jai Vilas Palace of the Scindias, established by Maharaja Jayajirao in 1874. Distinguished for hosting one of Asia's most extensive carpets for an impressive 12-year run, the museum also encompasses the Chitrangada Raje Art Gallery and a library boasting over 5,000 books. Five halls within the museum depict various historical activities and periods. An intriguing feature is the elegant dining room where, post-dinner, a model railway track showcases a silver-built train circling the dining table. Children up to 5 years old enjoy free entry to the museum. The space is adorned with beautiful and peculiar items, including cut-glass chairs, stuffed tigers, and an exclusive female-only pool with a fancy boat. The museum boasts a vast collection of arms and armour utilised by the Scindia family in the past, including during World War I and II. This assortment includes an array of swords, spears, daggers, guns, pistols, ceramic decorative plates and crystal and silver crockery, making the collection exceptionally rich and unique.
