“Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden is situated in Guwahati, Assam, established in 1957 and opened to the public in 1958. Commonly known as the Green Lung of the city, it aims to provide quality services and facilities for the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals, nature awareness, interpretation, and responsible nature tourism. Covering an area of 175 hectares, the zoo includes a botanical garden spread across 82 hectares, hosting diverse flora and fauna species totalling 112. With a commitment to rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals, creating awareness about nature, and promoting responsible nature tourism, the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden houses 1,231 animals. Additionally, the botanical garden plays a role in educating children by providing comprehensive details. In the past year, the zoo welcomed 504,597 visitors.
