Government Museum is a heritage centre situated in the vicinity of the Rani Mangammal Mahal. The museum's primary allure lies in its collection of sculptures depicting Gautam Buddha, Mahavira, Lord Vishnu, and various other notable figures. Additionally, the museum showcases a diverse array of rare insects, birds, and mammals. A distinct section of the museum is dedicated to tribal materials and a model representing the Pachamalai hills. The extensive collection features up to 2000 items, both indoors and outdoors. Indoors, visitors can explore epoch artefacts like megalithic sculptures and more. The outdoor exhibits, shaping the sculpture park, predominantly feature stone idols. Notably, an unearthed stone window (salaram) from Alundur village in Viralimalai taluk, Trichy District, dating back to the 10th century A.D. is 3 feet high and 2 feet wide. The stone window bears a Tamil inscription on its top.
