JAMBUKESWARAR TEMPLE
“Jambukeswarar Temple, a renowned Shiva temple, is 7 km from Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Constructed around 1,800 years ago by Kocengannan (Kochenga Chola), one of the Early Cholas, the temple is on Srirangam Island, home to the Ranganathaswamy temple. Spanning 600 acres, the Kaveri River surrounds the temple on one side and its tributary, Kollidam, on the other. This island town is enclosed within the seven walls of the historic Sri Ranganathaswami Temple. The Arulmigu Jambukeswarar Akhilandeswari Temple in Tiruvanaikka, on the Jambukeswarar Temple island, is recognised as a centre for religious philosophy and learning. In the 11th century, the influential Vaishnava Acharya Ramanuja taught and wrote at the Srirangam School, making it a significant hub for Vaishnavism. The Jambukeswarar Temple is rich in architectural elements, featuring various shrines and mandapas. The 5th praharam, known as 'Thiruneettan thirumathil,' holds special significance as it is believed that Lord Shiva blessed a spider and an elephant here to attain moksha. Annually, hundreds of devotees gather to witness the Lord's divine presence and seek his blessings.
